Join forces with civil society organizations from around the world working on SDG16+ through concerted efforts and activities

Support the Global Day of SDG16+ Action to publicly express your support for accelerated action on SDG16+

In advance of the SDG Summit in September 2023, we will mobilize national civil society, government and private sector stakeholders to participate in a “Global Day of SDG16+ Action.” The Day of Action will include a range of online and offline activities to showcase the importance of SDG16+ and your role a supporter of SDG16+. A menu of virtual and offline options have been developed through which you can highlight the critical importance of SDG16+ as a vehicle to address some of the world’s biggest and most pressing issues.

In the lead up to the Global Day of SDG16+, there will be a number of way to support, including:

  1. Urging UN Member States to accelerate action on SDG16+
  2. Sharing how you or your organization will support accelerated action on SDG16+ to meet the 2030 Agenda
  3. Sending a message on why  SDG16+ and building just, peaceful and inclusive societies is important  
  4. Making the #SDG16Now Campaign go viral on social media
  5. Signing the petition calling for accelerated action on SDG16+
  6. Hitting the streets and raise awareness about SDG16+ by asking community members what governments need to do to create more just, peaceful and inclusive societies

Where: The Global Day of SDG16+ Action will take place across the globe, including both virtual and in person mobilization and events.

Who: The Global Day of SDG16+ action is open to any SDG16+ supporter, including the general population, UN, civil society, philanthropic groups, states and the private sector.

Join the SDG Summit Peoples Rally at UN Headquarters

Together with a number of civil society groups, we will organize a people’s rally in New York City on the sidelines of the UN SDG Summit urging UN Member States to take accelerated action on the SDGs. The rally will provide an opportunity for the general public, civil society and other stakeholders to publicly express their support for accelerated action on SDGs. In addition to raising awareness about the SDGs, the rally will provide an opportunity for a range of stakeholders to showcase their work on the SDGs and hear from a range of actors on the steps needed to accelerate action on SDG16+.

  3. Printing material for the rally

Who: The SDG Peoples Rally is open to any SDG16+ supporter, including the general population, UN, civil society, philanthropic groups, states and the private sector. All participants in the rally, while not mandatory, will be encouraged to register in advance. A select number of groups will be invited to showcase their work to support the SDGs through hosting informational booths and speaking during the rally.

Support the SDG16+ Commitment Conference

The SDG16+ Commitment Conference will bring together a range of civil society, UN, government and private sector stakeholders following the SDG Summit in New York in September to take stock of the commitments made to accelerate SDG16+ during the SDG Summit. The half-day conference will provide an opportunity to explore and discuss concrete measures made by States and other stakeholders to support the realization of commitments on SDG16+ prior to and during the SDG Summit. The event will further provide an opportunity to develop a joint roadmap for follow-up to the Summit, including how to leverage commitments at the national, international and regional level.

There will be multiple avenues to support the conference.  Some include:

  1. Sharing the invitation to the conference on social media and through email
  2. In advance of the conference, completing a brief form to share your organization’s renewed SDG16+ commitment or how you will support the realization of SDG16+ over the course of the next several years

Where: The conference will be held in New York City at a location of mutual convenience for all participants. Virtual participation will be included, where technically feasible. A light lunch will be provided.

Who: The conference will be co-hosted and co-organized by a consortium of state, civil society, UN and private sector stakeholders. Participants will include a similarly diverse cohort including TAP Members and Partners, civil society organizations, human rights defenders, States and UN, philanthropic and private sector representatives.

Join the Call for CSO access and participation at the SDG Summit

An inclusive and participatory SDG summit is crucial to ensuring greater civil society impact. To this end, we are working in concert with a range of allies to ensure that civil society groups are able to access all relevant virtual and in-person discussions and debates in advance of and during the SDG Summit. The campaign will call more robust civil society participation in the SDG Summit. Sourced from best practices, we will call on the UN and Member States to provide pluralistic and genuine opportunities for virtual and in-person engagement in the development and implementation of the SDG Summit.

Who: The call can be supported by any civil society group in the world which supports the tenets found in the SDGs. It will be developed together with the #SDG16Now Campaign Advisory Committee.

Become a #SDG16Now Campaign Champion

Campaign Champions include government, private sector, academia, intergovernmental bodies and philanthropic actors, who are committed to advancing SDG16+ and support one or more of the activities below in advance of and during the SDG Summit.  By becoming a #SDG16Now Champion, your institution will be recognized as a leader amongst the SDG16+ community, and your logo and/or name will be included on the #SDG16Now Campaign website indicating your role as a “Champion.”

Becoming an #SDG16Now Campaign Champion involves supporting one or more of the following activities:

  • Endorse the #SDG16Now Champion Statement
  • Co-host a national consultation with civil society and national government stakeholders calling for renewed commitment on SDG16+
  • Publicly advocate for wider CSO access and participation at the SDG Summit and other relevant intergovernmental processes
  • Co-host a virtual consultation between civil society, UN and government stakeholders on accelerating action on SDG16+
  • Co-sponsor the SDG Summit SDG16+ Stocktaking Conference in New York
  • Make a commitment to accelerate action on SDG16+ in advance of or during the SDG Summit
  • Make a commitment to resource or finance accelerated action on SDG16+ in advance of or during the SDG Summit
  • Publicly highlight the integral role of civil society in realizing SDG16+ in advance of or during the SDG Summit

Join the #SDG16Now Campaign Community

With the #SDG16Now Campaign looking to mobilize a broad range of stakeholders to support SDG16+ action, you can join our community to stay in the loop on ongoing activities, and help support and share campaign activities, key messages and opportunities. By joining the community, you’ll receive all email updates regarding the campaign. 

When: Colleagues can register to become part of the community at any time.

Where: Most engagement through the campaign community will be virtual and online.

Who: Any interested organizations or stakeholders can join the campaign to become a part of the #SDG16Now Community.

Join TAP Network

In addition to engaging with the #SDG16Now Campaign, civil society organizations can also join TAP Network to become a part of a growing cohort of experts and practitioners working to advance SDG16+, and deepen their engagement around this agenda. Organizations can join as “members” to stay up to date on all TAP activities, or as “partners” to outline their commitment to SDG16+, which will be featured on the TAP Network Partner Action Platform.

You can join TAP Network as a “member” or as a “partner”, and engage around the many additional opportunities within the network going forward.

When: CSOs can join the TAP Network at any time.

Where: Most engagement through the TAP Network will be virtual and online, with additional opportunities for in-person engagement throughout the year.

Who: Any civil society organization can join the TAP Network as a member or a partner.
