As the world faces more conflicts than ever before, access to peace, just and inclusive societies remain a great necessity for sustainable development. Millions of people across the globe are deprived of access to justice and their human rights. It is critical that peace, justice and strong institutions become central to achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development through the promotion of interlinkages across sectors (SDG16+).
That’s where the #SDG16Now Campaign comes in. The campaign, hosted by the Transparency, Accountability and Participation (TAP) Network, convenes the global SDG16+ community, including civil society, the UN, Governments and the private sector, to advocate for and deliver robust commitments to accelerate action on SDG16+. The campaign aims to:
- Mobilize civil society and all stakeholders publicly call for transformative action on SDG16+
- Advocate for governments to commit to accelerate action and increase resources to realize SDG16+ at all levels
- Connect civil society & national stakeholders to key global processes, & showcase civil society’s leadership role in SDG16+

- Develop #SDG16Now Campaign resources including advocacy tools, capacity strengthening resources, and efforts to mobilize the SDG16+ community around high-level events
- Lead and facilitate advocacy coordination amongst campaign members, bringing national and sub-national perspectives to global policymaking spaces
- Organize and host events, webinars, and workshops to mobilize the SDG16+ community
- Champion storytelling to highlight promising approaches, case studies, and stories about efforts to advance SDG 16. This will be both a resource for our mobilization but also a tool for campaign partners to engage–by submitting their content for publication.

Overall, the global community is behind schedule on achieving the SDG’s ambitious targets, including SDG16+. As we approach the halfway point of the 2030 Agenda, the world faces the pressing reality that, in many countries and communities, progress towards sustainable development is backsliding. The #SDG16Now Campaign mobilizes actors to advance commitments on SDG16+.
Civil Society Leadership
Through initiatives like the Halfway to 2030 Report on SDG16+, the campaign brings together actors to provide in-depth analysis around key SDG16+ issues and key recommendations to governments and the international community on where action and ambition must be directed.
A Community of Practice
The #SDG16Now Campaign includes and engages some of the foremost expert organizations working to advance SDG16+ and social accountability at all levels. Campaign activities promote sharing and learning among the membership, creating opportunities for collaboration and innovation.
Collective Mobilization
Through the #SDG16Now Campaign, we facilitate collective advocacy resources and opportunities, working with civil society, academia, the private sector, think tanks, national governments, and parliamentarians to develop policy priorities and recommendations to actualize SDG 16.
